In the 1950's, young Alice leaves the Swiss mountains for the sunny and vibrant shores of Beirut. She falls madly in love with Joseph, a quirky astrophysicist. Alice quickly fits in among his relatives, but after years of bliss the encroaching civil war begins to tear their family apart. Must see.

This gorgeous film recreates an era when the world seemed simpler. Beirut was the Paris of the middle east. Travel and change of lifetsyle and country did not seem impossible. It has a dreamlike quality and its visual treatments transport the viewer back to the time recreated here effortlessly. A stellar performance by Alba Rorhwacher steers the ship as we find her charcter Alice falling in love with an astrophyscist, raising a beautiful family only to have it torn apart by the encroaching civil conflict all of which is depicted non violently. It's a beautiful film.
