From the best selling novel "Soudain Seuls" SUDDENLY is a major production drama-adventure with two top leads. A dream sailing journey goes wrong and a couple must face themselves, some home truths and try to find a way out of a remote abandoned whaling station.
Together for five years, Ben (Gilles Lellouche, Farewell Mr. Haffman- All Your Faces) and Laura ( Mélanie Thierry, Memoir of War), decide to embark on a global sailing journey. A land detour to a remote whaling station island near the Antarctic coast takes an unexpected turn when a storm hits, causing their boat to lose anchor.
Isolated from the world and suddenly alone with only a dinghy and some bare essentials they must now struggle both for survival and the preservation of their relationship. Written and directed by Thomas Bidegain, renowned for his collaborations with director Jacques Audiard on films such as A Prophet and Rust and Bone this film works on the viewer in numerous ways, begging the question, what would we do in the same situation?
An adaptation from the novel Soudain, seuls by French author and sailor Isabelle Autissier, Suddenly is a gripping and welcome departure from the period pieces and feel good comedies that dominate the Festival. Once again Gilles Lellouche is tremndous and Melanie Thierry is the big reveal as the seemingly more vulnerable of the two, but who ultimately overcomes it all.
"A purely staged adventure drama film, oscillating between thriller and psychological survival, enhanced by Raphaël's original soundtrack. " CNews
