Writer and Director Alejandro Amenábar is no stranger to 'big films' having delivered us While at War and The Sea Inside before.
Here he takes on the story of when Miguel de Cervantes (played by Peña) the future author Don Quixote, one of the most popular tales of all time, was held prisoner by the Ottoman Empire in Algiers.
It's 1575 and no time for the faint hearted, but in essence it was the making of Cervantes for it was here he learned to take refuge in the art of storytelling which provided a small window for his freedom. The only other option being a ransom paid for his freedom with many other captives awaiting the same good fortune. Only a few win it.
